RV Parks
RV parks and campgrounds are easy to find and provide all the amenities any RVer could want. Full hookups include water, RV waste dump, electricity, cable TV, phone, and even WiFi are available at many locations.
Many RV parks have laundry facilities, electric only RV camping sites, dump stations, recreation rooms, and play areas for children and adults. Pets are restricted in some parks, as well as vehicle type and even age in some of the nicest RV resorts. Rates vary from as little as $5 a night to over $50. You should expect to average between $20 and $30 per night in a private RV park or campground. Discount RV camping clubs can help cut nightly expenses, and vehicle specific RV clubs can be great for family and group RV travel.
The Physics of Towed Vehicles Flat Towing A Vehicle Behind Your RV
Many motorhome owners flat tow a vehicle (all four wheels on the ground) on their RV camping trips. We here at www.rv-camping.org flat tow our modified Jeep Wrangers on our adventures, and have for over 120,000 miles. We appreciate the freedom and convenience of having a small vehicle instead of using our RV to explore new places.
Towing anything is a pretty big responsibility in our opinion. State laws vary, but trailers over a certain weight require trailer brakes… typically 1500 lbs. While trailers are usually required to have braking systems, many state towing laws are vague at best as to a requirement for towed vehicle brakes. Some states require a stopping ability within a specified distance from a stated speed, and many require a "break-away" brake for situations where the towed vehicle becomes unhitched, but as far as we know, there is no national standard for supplemental braking systems in the USA.
Logically speaking, if state laws require a trailer of 1500 pounds to have brakes, it seems to us that towing something that can easily weigh twice as much (our Jeep weighs over three times as much at nearly 5000 lbs.) should have a braking system too. However not everyone agrees with the above logic, and there are a large number of folks out there towing a vehicle without supplemental brakes.

Campground and RV Parks Around Monterey and Carmel
If
you're traveling a recreational vehicle and looking for a place to stay
close to Monterey and Carmel, you may be surprised how few places
you'll find to do that. In fact, the Monterey Peninsula is woefully
short of places to camp, and it gets worse if you're looking for a place
to camp in a tent.
You
could spend a lot of time searching around for non-existent campgrounds
and RV parks, but you don't have because I did it for you.

RVs put a new take on ‘roughing it’
On the day the Steelers lost the American Football Conference championship in 1995, the annual Pittsburgh RV Show was touting the industry’s latest and greatest: mobile homes equipped with full kitchens and bathrooms.
But, on Sunday, attendees of the show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center could actually watch the Steelers’ playoff win against the Miami Dolphins inside any one of the luxurious vehicles, surrounded by LED lights, aluminum framing and the newest push-button technology.
Vail Lake has great camping and fishing with casinos nearby
Many
have ventured into the newer RV Parks that more of the Indian Casinos
have added to their resorts. With the quality of these parks being so
nice, many RV folks are returning more frequently. Some readers have
asked Russ and Lori where they might find lake or dry camping, close to
the areas surrounding some of these resort properties.
Temecula
is a fine area to visit if you want the diversity of nearby lake
camping while also having a close drive to the casinos and other options
available for the entire family. Russ and Lori suggest Vail Lake Resort
as one of the top lake camping facilities in the area. Still relatively
close to retail outlets, restaurants, casinos, golfing, and other
activities, Vail Lake is about a 30 minute drive to central Temecula and
about 75 miles to Palm Springs off of highway 79. Vail Lake is a resort
facility. It is managed by the California Parks Company and operated by
the Rancho California Water District.
Saving Money on a RV Camping Trip
Travel of any kind can be expensive. Experienced RV travelers already
know that there are savings to be found in traveling in an RV as
opposed to flying and staying in hotels. However, traveling in an RV is
still an expensive option. There are a few ways to make these travels
even more budget friendly.
Research
Start by spending some time researching RV sites and campgrounds. There are many options for budget camping.
You to search for sites by state and region. In addition you can read
about the site, learn about the options and amenities, and even read
guest reviews. Not only are these helpful in finding a spot that fits
your needs, but you can also take advantage of the online reservation
system for many of the RV parks listed. You can save some by determining
how much you will spend on sites ahead of time.
Low Cost or Free Activities
Try
enjoying actives that have little or no cost. Many recreational
activities that allow you to explore your destination are also free.
Research some great places to hike and if you brought your bikes look
for some great biking trails. You can learn about the flora and fauna in
the area by using free wifi when you can find it and looking up the
local species. You can also enjoy taking plenty of digital photographs
and much more.
Many other activities sometimes do have a minimal cost, but often you can find days when the entrance fees and costs are discounted. Museums will often have days with no entrance fees. Other attractions also have days with discounts, which is a great way to save money and enjoy all of the destinations you have been wanting to visit.

Tips for Family Camping and RVing Fun
Camping
trips are the perfect time for families to spend quality time together.
Spark everyone’s creativity and share the wonders of the great outdoors
with these fun, family-friendly activities – a perfect way to while
away a perfect camping day.
Buds are bursting, temperatures are warming and families are making plans for the best-ever camping/RVing trips. Whether it’s a trip to a new “favorite” place or an old standby, family camping trips are what life’s memories are made of. Spend time together with these nifty family camping activities…
Take a hike – Exploring the big beautiful outdoors with your children can be an adventure and an education.
• Prepare a hiking kit for each kid including a magnifying glass, note book and fun writing utensils, a bug, flora and/or fauna identifier or anything else that may help pique their interest.
• Wrap wide masking tape, sticky side out, around everyone’s wrist as a bracelet for collecting flowers, leaves, etc. along the trail.
• Devise a scavenger hunt. Provide each kid a list of several items that are likely to be found on a nature hike, for example, a small brown rock, a leaf at least one inch long, a pine cone, a yellow flower, etc., a pencil, and a large ziploc bag. At the end of the hike check off the items found and give a small treat or prize to all participants.
Bring home a new “pet” – a pet rock that is. This is an easy craft that will continue to deliver memories long after the trip is complete. From home you’ll need a supply of colorful permanent markers, small wiggly eyes, and glue (or small glue dots no larger than the eyes). Find a medium-sized, smooth rock, clean it up and based on its shape, imagine what type of animal it is (think lady bug, frog, beaver, etc.). Using the markers, color/decorate the rock and then glue eyes on “him” or “her”.
Camping with Kids
Do you like the idea of camping but find it too daunting after putting in long work days, school activities, and all of the necessities of life? Here are some tips for camping with kids.
Checklist for Setting Up Camp
RVers are some of the friendliest, most helpful people you will ever meet. Don’t be surprised if you pull into your site and your neighbor, whom you never met, is right there to assist and offer advice. Never be afraid to ask for help – everyone was a newbie at one time.
RVs vary, so this checklist is not meant to be all-inclusive. It is just a list of the high points to be sure you have it covered when you first take to a campground in your RV.

Want To Know The Cardinal Direction of a Location?
Turn your watch into a compass. If you’re lost, hold a watch with 12 o’clock at the left and the hour hand pointing at the sun. The spot that’s halfway between the hour hand and the 12 is south. Keep in mind that if you practice daylight saving time, you should subtract one hour from the hour hand.
